Women Groups Ordered to Return Government Money

Masaka: Beginning the financial year 2014/2015, women groups from various sub counties in Masaka district started receiving government money which was to be used in investing in different activities that would later bring profits to pay back the money.

According to Ms. Lillian Musisi the Development officer in Masaka district, the district received UGX 135Millions for twenty one women groups under the ‘Uganda Women’s Enterprise Programme – UMEP.

However, these women groups have not been bothering to pay back the money which forced government to order them to return the money with immediate effect starting this financial year.

Ms. Lillian added that women will be able to pay back this money since most of them were able to invest it in productive activities like farming and therefore will manage the directive.
