A Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) soldier alongside a civilian are being held at the Nwoya police station over the armed robbery.
Among the suspects are UPDF solider Private Ben Okite attached to the fifth Mountain Battalion Kabwera in Kasese district with a resident of Ngai sub-county in Oyam district known as Sam Olum.
Prior to their arrest, a complaint was on June 10th filled at Nwoya Central Police station by Charles Odoki under file under CRB 423/2021.
In his statement, Charles Odoki alleged that a military uniform dressed man alongside his counterpart had put up an illegal road block in Goro village, Lii sub county which they used as a means to rob people.
While speaking to local media, the Aswa River Region Police Public Relations Officer David Ongom Mudong said that once they attained this piece of information, the Field Force Unit (FFU) personnel got on ground to dig into the matter and subsequently arrested the suspects.

Additionally, the Public Relations Officer said they went on to contact the Uganda People’s Defense Forces so as to validate whether the suspect was in deed part of the army or if he only used it as a disguise.
In line to the above, he warned against tendencies of security personnel engaging in activities that are criminal in nature as also they interfere with peace in the post-war civilian setting in Northern Uganda.
