Uganda registers 12th COVID-19 Death as Cases Rise To 1,385.

The Ministry of Health has today, 14-August, registered one COVID-19 death in Kampala Metropolitan Area. This brings the country’s total number of deaths to 12.

“The deceased is a 64-year-old Ugandan Male, resident of Kampala Metropolitan Area, ” the Ministry of Health statement reads

According to the statement, the victim was admitted to Nsambya Hospital and later transferred to China-Uganda Friendship Hospital, Naguru after developing signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19.

“However, he later passed on while on admission at Naguru Hospital. Results from the laboratories confirmed COVID-19 positive.”

The country has also confirmed 32 new cases of COVID-19 bringing the total number of cases to 1,385.

These were from the 4,289 samples that were run by the ministry of health.

Out of the new infections recorded today, 17 are alerts, 6 are truck drivers, 6 are contacts of previously confirmed cases while 3 are Returnees.

Kampala Metropolitan Area had the highest number of alerts that tested positive with 10. The others were from Mbale, Luwero, Kagadi and Hioma Districts

“The Six(6) contacts of previously confirmed cases are broken down as follows; Three(3) from Kampala Metropolitan Area, Two (2) from Nakaseke and one(1) from Tororo,” the statement reads.

The six truck drivers that tested positive for COVID-19 include 3 who arrived from Kenya via Malaba.

Of the  19 foreign truck drivers were denied entry when they tested positive for coronavirus, 12 were Kenyans, 4 were Tanzanian, 2 were Congolese and one was Sudan Sudanese.

Meanwhile, Uganda’s cumulative coronavirus recoveries are 1,142.
