Despite being relegated to Fufa Big League, Maroons FC striker Steven Mukwala is on cloud nine after bundling the 2019/2020 Uganda Premier League golden boot.
This followed Fufa’s 2019/2020 season’s cancellation with league leaders Vipers SC being crowned the champions.
The StarTimes Uganda Premier League was suspended mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Before the League was ceased, Vipers were on top of the table with 54 points from 25 matches played, four points ahead of second-placed KCCA who were on 50 points.
The on-loan 20-year-old from Vipers beat Vipers’ Fahad Bayo and Police FC’s Ben Ocen, who had scored 12 goals each.
Mukwala’s dream fulfilled
Steven Mukwala’s main objective at Maroons was to prove his doubters wrong by scoring as many goals as possible as well as winning the golden boot.
He was able to fulfill his objective most importantly by winning the goalscoring race beating Vipers’ talisman Fahad Bayo.
Mukwala was crowned the top scorer of the league after netting 13 goals in 23 appearances for Maroons.
He congratulated Vipers
He celebrated by sending a congratulatory message to his parent club Vipers after winning the league.
Congratulations to my mother club Vipers SC for the Championship,” Mukwala said.
Although he was outstanding throughout the season, he was unable to help his side Maroons from surviving relegation.
“Thanks to all our fans for the support this season, let’s accept the verdict hope Maroons will bounce back.”
“On my side, it’s a dream come true to be the League top scorer,” he noted
Tooro United and Proline FC are the other two relegated teams to the second division Fufa Big League.
Vipers SC will represent Uganda in the next season’s Caf Champions League while KCCA FC were selected by Fufa to represent the country in Caf Confederation Cup.
