Following the declaration of the election management committee on 30th-June-2020 at the People Power Movement headquarters in Kamwokya, the committee started issuing nomination forms to interested candidates at various levels whose deadline has been today Friday 17th-July-2020.
However, the political pressure group has been forced to postpone the deadline by 14 days to Friday 31st-July-2020. Speaking to the media, the people power spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi and also an interested candidate for Nakawa division parliamentary seat said that the movement has been overwhelmed by the numbers of aspirants who wish to be backed by People Power Movement and Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu who will be the movement’s flag bearer in the presidential race.
On establishing the figures of the current records on the candidates that have so far returned the nominations forms on various levels, Hon. Samuel Walter Lubega Mukaku a former Presidential candidate and the vice-chairman Election Management Committee in People Power Movement listed the numbers of aspirants as follows;
Members of Parliament – 1,440 Aspirants
Local Council Five (LCV) – 1,060 Aspirants and
Local Council III & IV – 2,942 Aspirants.
“Whereas this extension applies to all positions, we have specific interests in Special Interest Groups Elections and lower local governments. We, therefore, call upon our youth in all villages to rise up and form groups of nine people power youth per village. In addition, to pick nominations from their district Electoral Commission offices.
