Following the chaos in the youth elections held on 17th and 18th August 2020, the National Unity Platform (NUP) President also the People Power principal Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has made changes in the party Election management Committee.
In the new changes Mercy Walukamba remained as the committee chairperson while Samuel Lubega Mukaku the former presidential candidate who has been the vice chairperson of the committee has been fired and other two namely; John Mary Ssebufu and Jeremiah Keeya have been replaced by Tony Mukibi (Tony hauls) a long time producer of Fire base and Rahma Juma.
It should be remembered that Samuel Lubega Mukaku was cited in violence on one of the polling stations in Lubaga South where he intends to contest as the area Member of Parliament. In the video that went viral, youths blamed Samuel Lubega Mukaku for supporting a Democratic Party Candidate by hoodwinking voters to vote for him instead of the real NUP candidate, this sparked violence and the youths forced him put off the People Power beret.
Furthermore, in an audio that was later revealed to have been recorded by one Mukibi who was giving a report to DP members how he managed to hoodwink NUP voters to vote for DP candidates in his constituency after hiding and denying NUP stamps to the authentic NUP candidates.
While speaking to the media, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has also officially launched the fundraising drive of over 1.1 Trillion Ugandan shillings that will help the party to run all the electoral processes. This drive dubbed Muda Ku Muda literally meaning each donating at least Ugx. 10,000/= is looking at all supporters and well-wishers of the National Unity platform (NUP) and Hon.
