The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) president Moses Magogo has finally fulfilled his promise by paying KCCA FC players.
The legendary Fufa president had promised the yellow boys some bonus for winning the Cecafa Kagame Cup in July 2019.
Marauding left back Mustafa Kizza struck the only goal against Azam in the final at Stade de Kigali Stadium to guide KCCA to their second regional trophy after the 1978 triumph.
This came along with $30,000 cash prize together with a supplementary bonus from Magogo’s promise.
“The president has honoured his pledge to KCCA players,” Fufa communications officer Ahmed Hussein said.
One of KCCA FC players have confirmed that most of the players at the club have accessed the money.
“I am yet to go to the bank but some of my colleagues have even already withdrawn some of their money.”
“I am glad it has come during the lockdown,” the player happily said after receiving the money.
This payment was done was done after Fifa wired the $500,000 (Shs1.9b) Covid-19 relief fund released to each of their 211 member associations.
KCCA FC players reportedly received the amount of Shs75m ($20,000) excluding their technical staff.
How KCCA proceeded to triumph?
The Uganda Premier League champions were pitted in group B along with Azam FC, Bandari and Mukura Victory Sports.
They kicked off with a one-all stalemate with Bandari, KCCA FC’s goal was scored by Sadam Juma in the 60th minute.
In their second game, they won 1-0 against Azam FC courtesy of Sadat Anaku’s 49th minute strike.
They sealed off group stage games with a 2-1 win against Mukura Victory Sports. Mike Mutyaba and Allan Okello scored for KCCA FC to guide them to quarterfinals.
KCCA FC won 2-1 against Rayon Sports in quarterfinals courtesy of Mustafa Kizza and Jackson Nunda strikes.
In semifinals, KCCA FC struggled to win 4-3 against Green Eagles after extra time. Allan Okello scored twice before Mike Mutyaba and Sadat Anaku scored the othe two goals.
The Kasasiro Boys were announced the champions of 2019 Kagame Interclub Cup after a 1-0 win against Azam FC. Mustafa Kizza scored for the Mike Mutebi coached side in the 62nd minute.
