Vipers SC players assured of salaries despite Covid-19. As all sports activities across the world were put on hold due to Coronavirus pandemic, KCCA FC and Vipers SC players are assured of payments.
According to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League giants, their players will be paid as usual although they suspended all the activities at these clubs.
“In the immediate term, sure, we’ll pay the players and staff. But in the medium term, we have to evaluate the impact of the global disorder,” KCCA FC vice-chairman Aggrey Ashaba was quoted saying.
“We’ll evaluate when we can see the impact as there are many unknowns currently.”
“But for contract renewals, acquisitions, values will depend on prevailing conditions of that day,” he added.
The Federation of Uganda Football Associations suspended the league for one month as one way of fighting Coronavirus.
“Even during the off-season, everyone on the Vipers SC players payroll is fully paid,” Vipers SC Public Relations Officer Abdu Wasike said.
What about other clubs?
Despite being in their maiden season in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, Wakiso Giants have also assured their players of being paid amid this trying situation.
“The coronavirus pandemic has hit us hard but nothing to do. We will follow the guidelines put out,” Wakiso Giants head of corporate affairs Ismael Kiyonga said.
“We had resumed training last week but we had to call it off as we study the situation.”
“The club have closed business for non-staff but if the situation doesn’t normalise within the 32 days, we might be forced to revise our other non-technical areas of operations,” he added.
However, most of the clubs in the league are not sure of players’ payments especially in this period.
The closure of the league came when some clubs like SC Villa had gone six months minus paying their players.
