“My dream from day one was always to become one of the top artists in the Ugandan music industry. I, however, got the inspiration from my father Canon Njagala Godfrey. My father was a very famous radio presenter at radio Star FM, therefore he used to call me his number one singer when I was a child. Besides my father, I had a lot of artists who really inspired to admire their great talents.
Therefore these include Whitney Houston, Maria Carey, Juliana Kanyomzi, and Yvon Chaka Chaka.
These are really talented artists with great voices and discipline, therefore I at some point referred to myself as the new Juliana Kanyomozi of Uganda… Hmmm, I am really moved every time I listen to their music,” Jonathan UG told Cyclone Times Uganda.
Johnathan is one of those really promising artists in the game and thus expects to scoop lots of accolades through his musical journey. However, he revealed to us that he has never won any professional music awards but promised his audience to watch the space. In addition, Jonathan UG didn’t forget to share a few crucial challenges he has faced in the industry so far.
“Many people out there have rejected me so many times because I tend to sound like female artists. In addition, when I went for the Yolesa Ekitone competition which was hosted by Bukedde TV, people really demoralized me. This industry is very expensive to penetrate, for instance, I didn’t have funds to help me through East Africa’s got talent.

In addition, also promoting music is very expensive and yet you can’t compete very well nowadays without getting the game to the top through music promotions. Finally, People always never get me right because of an awesome voice, they confuse my gender and my voice. This really hurts me at some point but then I have to be myself because I can’t force another identity,” Jonathan UG added.
We as Cyclone Times Uganda understand that most of the artists don’t get into relationships so easily when they have to push their careers. Therefore Jonathan UG had to open up on issues concerning his relationship to clear the air… Hmm, this shocked our news team.
With his shy face, Jonathan UG revealed and assured us that he single and searching… sorry and not searching because he says that he is so contented with his current lifestyle.
What are your hobbies and how are you managing life during this quarantine?
Well, before I talk about anything concerning my hobbies and quarantine life, I want to thank God for keeping us alive up to date. I also want to thank the government of Uganda and the Ministry of Health for doing a great job to keep our fans alive. This is because without the fans, surely we can’t survive and surely there will be no music since we sing for the people.
Back to the question, I like singing, watching movies, cooking, reading novels, and gossiping during my free time.
Quarantine honestly speaking has done me badly because I no longer have enough time to reach out to my fans and entertain them. Quarantine also means a lot of work ahead of us after the entire COVID-19 global pandemic is over. This is we will have to put in a lot of work to make sure we bring back some of our fans who would have lost on each and everything. However, I have written some new songs and also do some baking during this Quarantine.
Jonathan UG has worked with elite records such as Teresa, open your eyes, and a cover by Maria Carey’s vision of love. Right now he is working on his love ballad album working with another producer City Drumboy(Mr.Beats).
