Jinja Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Eric Sakwa has been fired from exercising his duties as an RDC. Jinja RDC Erick Sakwa was arrested on Friday, 24th  of April 2020, by operatives from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit. This followed after Jinja District residents raised complaints of the RDC kidnapping, beating, robbing, and torturing them.

In addition, every time he used to enforce presidential directives concerning the coronavirus pandemic. He was picked from one of the studios of a certain radio station in Jinja City while appearing on a coronavirus talk show.

However, during his arrest, the residents threw insulting statements at him and some of them wanted him roasted. He was then charged with manslaughter and causing malicious damage to the property.

Jinja RDC Eric Sakwa too appeared on one of Uganda’s TV stations threatening the FDC leader Dr. Kiza Besigye never to step in Jinja because he was a problem to Jinja City.

Therefore, in a letter, signed by Haji Kakande Yunus form the Office of the president, this is what the Jinja RDC was told to do-;

“Following your arrest on charges of manslaughter and others, you have consequently appeared before the court, and you were remanded to prison on Friday 24th April 2020.

In accordance with section P.S  paragraph 8 of the public service standing orders (2010), you are hereby interdicted in your position as a resident district commissioner and therefore barred from exercising the powers and functions of your office with immediate effect.

During the interdiction period you have barred from-:

  • Exercising duties of a resident district commissioner

  • Leaving the country without the explicit clearance from the secretary office of the president
  • You shall receive a salary not less than half of your basic salary, subject to a refund of the other half, in case the interdiction is lifted and the charges are dropped.

You are therefore required to hand over any government property in your possession in accordance with the laid down procedure and regulations.

Please hand over to the internal security officer – Jinja, who will in addition to his schedule of duties perform the responsibilities of a resident District commissioner Jinja until otherwise advised or decided accordingly.
