Summary: Raphael Magyezi who is the Igara West Member of Parliament and the newly appointed Minister for Local Government has laughed at the Opposition MPs who are rejecting the 20M allocated by parliament for each MP to fight the COVID pandemic.
“If Opposition MPs don’t want to take the money, let them leave it”, Repheal Magyezi as he blagged while appearing on Tooro TV.Hon. Repheal Magyezi
The age limit bill motion mover reacted after MP Zaake Francis Butebi of Mityana Municipality penned a 20M rejection letter to the Speaker of Parliament yesterday, saying that this money doesn’t have a clear justification but also legally and ethically questionable.
However, Raphael Magyezi has encouraged all NRM MPs not to reject this money, saying that they need to help people with that money.
“If Opposition MPs don’t want to take the money, let them leave it. Actually they should give it to us because we have a lot of people who call us begging for food. Opposition MPs think they are too smart but I just laugh at them some times,” he said.
How can you refuse 20M, don’t they have people in their constituencies who are looking for help in these hard times?. He possed a question .
According to the Speaker of the Parliament yesterday, parliament has allocated Shs10b to facilitate Parliament and MPs for Covid-19 emergencies adding that the 10bn is part of the Shs304b supplementary budget passed by Parliament last week.
“While appropriating the money in the supplementary budget to different sectors involved in the fight against Covid-19, Shs10b was allocated to Parliament, raising questions in the public.” She added according to Daily Monitor.
The Local Government Minister says that he can not return back the money that is meant to help people in quarantine, adding that people shouting are the ones going to praise them when we give them help from this money.
“So, my fellow NRM MPs don’t be intimidated by these opposition MPs, the rebel MPs and the public, take this money and help people in your constituencies,” he advised.
While appearing on NBS TV yesterday, Ms Kadaga said, without giving a breakdown, part of the Shs10b will be used to maintain the ambulances contributed by Parliament and individual MPs, provide fuel and pay allowances for the drivers of the ambulances already released by MPs to help the Covid-19 taskforces at district level.
In addition, Kadaga also revealed that there has been calls for expenses on fuel and it had now become a burden to the MPs from their consitituencies. “They came here saying ‘find us some money from Parliamentary budget,” she added.
In reaction to Magyezi’s submission, Christine Amootie cautioned the Minister that if non opposition leaders managed to steal food meant for vulnerable and needy people, how about the money which will be deposited on your accounts and you have full control of it? I know you will give it out just because of the pressure which has risen from social media.
Zaake vows to return the money in case it is deposited before the reciept of his letter. “In case it is received after the money has been deposited, I will return the same at the earlier opportunity available.” The letter mentioned last.
Kabiito Kato: asked Magezi to first sacrifice what you get on your own for your people advising that the 10b should be sustainable for equipping our hospitals and health centers. Let us not be fooled by such sycophants!
Zahura Adolf Kasangaki: If that money was meant for poor and vulnerable people in your constituencies, it should have been given to the national/ district Covid-19 task forces to buy the relief items, stop fooling us poor Magyezi.
Humphrey Bizo: The president said all help has to pass through ministry of health not MPs you know longer fool Ugandans am assuring you twebereramu why can’t that 20 million be handed over to the ministry and increase the quantities of food to be supplied? They can even give 20 kgms per door because the pandemic is still spreading we don’t know when it will end and now you give 20 million to a person like Kato Lubwama and Munyagwa and think it will be supplied to people?
