The Uganda government has set 31st march 2019 as the deadline for re-registering all teachers through out the country.
According to the letter signed by the education permanent secretary, Alex Kakoza, the exercise is intended to fight the challenge of ghost teachers in the system.
“The reregistration of teachers will enable us accurately establish the actual number of qualified teachers in the system and ensure that only qualified teachers are employed”, the letter reads.
As per the 2008 Education Act, the ministry of education is required to re-register online all teachers from both private and government schools to obtain online generated data on the number of qualified teachers in the country.
However, the question of whether this will improve on the education system in the country remains unanswered.
