Pepe Reina is set to add AC Milan to his CV of huge European clubs as the 35-year-old goalkeeper undergoes a medical.
The former Liverpool and Bayern Munich stopper is to join this summer, sparking fears that teen sensation Gianluigi Donnarumma will depart the San Siro club.
Reina is currently plying his trade with Napoli but his contract with the Italian side expires at the end of the season.
News of his impending arrival in Milan will no doubt alert clubs to the possible availability of Donnarumma, who is one of the most highly regarded young players in Europe.
The 19-year-old has been linked with PSG, Real Madrid and Juventus and is thought by many to be the heir apparent to Gianluigi Buffon.
Donnarumma’s relationship with AC Milan fans has been strained at times, particularly when he initially refused to sign a new deal last summer.
That delay led to him having fake money thrown at him during a U21’s European Championship match.
And it seems he is heading ever closer to the exit door, a huge blow for Milan fans given his rise from the academy and impressive performances this season.
Gennaro Gattuso’s side are up to sixth in the table and Donnarumma has been a key part of their recent upturn in form.
But it seems unlikely that the experienced Reina would complete his move to play second fiddle, particularly in the twilight of his career.
