Fernandes surpasses Lampard in Premier League history

Manchester United talisman Bruno Fernandes has surpassed Frank Lampard in Premier League history books.

Fernandes scored the opening goal against Liverpool on Thursday night.

With just 10 minutes on the clock, Fernandes’ strike went past Alisson in the Liverpool net.

Fernandes now has 28 goals to his name from 56 appearances across all competitions in 2020-21.

This has seen him set a new record in English football.

Fernandes sets new record

The midfielder has now scored more goals in a single season than any other Premier League midfielder in history.

He beat the mark previously set by Lampard at Chelsea in 2009/2010.

The 26-year-old also now has 44 goal involvements in 50 top-flight appearances for United (26 goals, 18 assists).

This puts him third in the club record books behind Eric Cantona (46) and Robin van Persie (45).

He has established himself as one of the best players in Europe since joining United for €55 million from Sporting in January 2020.

The Portugal international has hit 40 goals in his first 78 outings for the Red Devils.

He has also set up a further 25 for his teammates.

Fernandes will have the chance to add to his tally in United’s final three fixtures of the season.

He will start with a home encounter against Fulham on Sunday.
