Express FC kicked off their 2020/2021 StarTimes Uganda Premier League campaign with a 1 – 1 draw against Onduparaka FC at the Green Light stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Last season’s top scorer Frank Kalanda dusted himself up to slot home 11 minutes into the game after he was brought down by Mahdi Ajobe in the forbidden area.
Onduparaka winger Kabon Livingston seemed to be a thorn in the Express FC defence tormenting left back Arthur Kiggundu.
He was also a threat to defensive pairing of Murushid Juuko and Enock Walusimbi on several occasions.
Express FC suffered a setback in the 20th minute with midfielder Kayiwa Ibrahim picking up a knock.
He was replaced by Charles Musiige allowing the Caterpillars to mount more attacks but Mathias Muwanga was the difference with good stops.
After recess, Kabong Livingston continued his fine display and in the 68th minute all hell broke loose when Walusimbi was sent off for handling the ball deliberately in the box.
Kabong made no mistake sending Mathias Muwanga the opposite way.
Bbosa’s reaction on the game
Express FC head coach Wasswa Bbosa believes that his charges will react positively in their next game by registering a win.
“It’s always difficult to win in Arua against Onduparaka, I think the boys played well, maybe our transition lacked a bit after we scored but we shall improve in our next game,” Bbosa said.
The Red Eagles’ next game will be at home against Bright Stars on Tuesday, and will hope to pick up their first victory.
