An 18-year-old student who sacrificed himself to save his classmates during a school shooting has been hailed as a hero.
Kendrick Castillo and two other youngsters leapt up from their desks to tackle a teenage gunman after spotting a firearm at STEM School Highlands Ranch in Denver, Colorado, on Tuesday.
They slammed their classmate against a wall as they fought to contain him, but shots were fired and Castillo died from his injuries.
One of the other two students who struggled with the gunman was Brendan Bialy, 18, a close friend of Castillo who told reporters he “went out a hero” and “died a legend”.
He added: “He was a foot away from the shooter and instead of running the opposite direction he ran towards it.”
