Cristiano Ronaldo has followed Virgil van Dijk with an end-of-season message to his fans – and outshone the Liverpool defender.

Van Dijk reflected on a successful campaign for club and country by sending a message to Liverpool supporters on social media.

“We achieved great things this season at Liverpool as a team and I feel proud to be part of such an incredible club with this group of players,” he wrote.

“To be European champions is a dream come true! We are all now hungry for more success and will continue to give all we can to achieve that.”

Van Dijk also reflected on his success with Holland as they made the Nations League final – only to be beaten by Ronaldo’s Portugal.

And he also took to social media on Friday night to reflect on his campaign, which was his first at Juventus.

He posted on Instagram: “What an unforgettable season! New experiences, gigantic club, exciting city, broken records, and three more titles!

“I have to thank all of the Juventus fans for the wonderful way I was welcomed in Italy! You’re a very important part of our victories!

“Thanks to all my fans around the world and particularly to the Portuguese people that helped us reach another historical win for Portugal! You’ll always have a special place in my heart!”
