During the campaign period, many fundraising campaigns were set up for the National Unity Platform Party president Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine as he contested for the country’s highest office. The latest has been a bulletproof vehicle that Kyagulanyi has revealed that he received it a few weeks ago.
This was in his “Thank You Note” as he appreciated and applauded those who supported his campaign.
“There is another group of comrades who kick-started a fundraising campaign for a bulletproof vehicle. These comrades informed me of their plan, but I thought it was an uphill task, given how expensive it is,” Kyagulanyi said.
“A few weeks ago, these comrades surprised me when they informed me that they had succeeded in raising enough money for the vehicle, and here it is,” he added as he thanked the group.
As the campaign becomes rough, characterized by teargas and live ammunition, some people donated bulletproof vests and ballistic helmets while others started fundraising for a bulletproof vehicle which Kyagulanyi could believe was possible due to its high price tag.
“From the time we were attacked with live bullets on the campaign trail and particularly when a projectile hit Dan Magic smashing his face, many Ugandans out of concern sent me bulletproof vests and ballistic helmets, which I put on throughout the campaign period, and gave others to comrades. Indeed, if I did not have one on in Masaka, the story would be different,” Kyagulanyi said.
