The Kyadondo East Member of Parliament, Robert Kyagulanyi famously known as Bobi Wine has blamed the government over the attack on Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) strongman, Col Dr Kizza Besigye, on Saturday afternoon at the Masengere building in Mengo.
Dr Besigye had just appeared for a political talk show on CBS FM.
The youths surrounded Besigye, chanting “We Want Bobi Not Besigye,” before the former Presidential candidate was helped into his vehicle by aides and sped off.
In an interview concerning the scuffle, Bobi Wine said he and his team were investigating to find out who was behind the attack.
He said they were also considering the possibility that the attack was stage managed by government.
“Regarding this specific event, we’re trying to establish clear facts surrounding the incident,” Bobi Wine said in a statement.
“Followers of the politics of this country will understand that such stunts and machinations have in the past been stage-managed by the state and other actors to achieve political objectives”
Bobi Wine promised to probe the incident and take action, in the event that the attack was indeed organized by his own people of the People Power Movement, as has been claimed by FDC supporters.
“We are yet to come to a conclusion after fully investigating the incident. Should we find that some of the people involved genuinely belong to Peoplepower, we shall take measures to fully address this.”
Bobi Wine went on to call for respect for all people who are in the struggle for change, despite dissenting views on tactics.
“We believe in the unity of all forces of change in Uganda,” He said.
“Dr. Kizza Besigye has been such a strong pillar for the forces of change- alongside other men and women who have made immense sacrifices for this struggle.”
“Regardless of any real or perceived disagreements in the strategy or tactics of taking the struggle forward, all of us must treat each other with respect. We cannot be fighting amongst ourselves”.
