Nairobi has become the next African City after Kampala to witness the launch of uberBoda – a boda boda commuters’ mobile app for service.
The company’s launch of uberBODA in Nairobi follows a recent launch of uberBODA in Kampala, Uganda earlier in March of 2018. The Boda Boda ride services are in high expansion as providers keep in a steady competition; UberBoda’s launch in Kampala early this year meets a stiff competition from TaxifyBoada and the pioneer SafeBoada.
According to Nairobi News, on his recent visit to Nairobi, Pierre-Dimitri Gore-Coty, Vice President for Uber in Europe Middle East and Africa said that they were excited about the launch of uberBODA in Nairobi.
The delay for UberBoda to get into Kenya has made it face more competition from already existing hailing firms; TaxifyBoda, SafeBoda, GetBoda, VutaRide, and BusyBoda. Their delay for expansion isn’t yet known.
“While Uber has grown into a global brand, we understand the importance of building technology to meet the needs of the local market. We will continue to invest our technology in products like uberBODA that seek to support local businesses while providing another safe, reliable and convenient choice for passengers,” said Gore-Coty.
With Uber’s technology, it is possible to focus on the safety of passengers and drivers before, during, and after every trip and the UberBoda product will follow the same strict safety measures applied to all Uber products.
TechMoran further reported that UberBoda, meets all National Transport and Safety Authority driver requirements and additional road safety training. All UberBoda driver-partners will undergo a strict screening process and will be required to have all relevant permits in order to operate.
As usual, the riders will be provided with a reflective jacket as well as a helmet for both the passenger and driver
To request a ride with uberBODA, passenger simply needs to open the Uber app and select uberBODA.
uberBODA has a base fare of Sh55, minimum fare of Sh60 and Sh14 per KM. Passengers can access uberBODA in all neighborhoods of Nairobi except within the CBD.
Their entry in the market comes months after another ride-sharing firm Taxify introduced boda-boda service in the city. Nairobi News reported.
