According to Abaas “Being recognized by Obama is one of my best moments” In 2018 the former President of America, Barrack Obama recognized him saying “People like Abaas Mpindi, a Journalist from Uganda who founded the Media Challenge Initiative to help other young people get the training they need to tell the stories that the world needs to know”

Abaas Mpindi is the CEO Media Challenge Initiative, to him, he never dreamt to be the kind of person he is but one thing he wanted was a success. Being raised by his mother and grandmother, he believes that this is one of those things that put a foundation to his current success. He confirms that he knew Journalism can make the world a better place from a young age

Growing up, Abaas was more into different co-curricular activities like athletics, football, music, dance and drama. He went to Buziga Islamic for Primary, St Leo’s College Kyegobe for High School, after this he joined Kyambogo University on a government scholarship where he did Adult & Community education, UMCAT where he got a Diploma in Journalism, he later enrolled for Masters in International relations at Makerere University and a Masters of International development that he did online

Mpindi after seeking for internship from one of the TVs in Uganda and the person at the reception asked if he knew anyone at the station, since he knew no one, he walked away thinking of how many students go through the same.

 It’s from this background in the year of 2012 that Mpindi with his colleagues such as Antonio Kisembo, Simon Kakooza, Ivan Kimuli Kigozi and others faced Baale Francis to request him organize media  competitions named after him, these never looked back uptodate where the mere UMCAT competition has now turned into a national competition where over 12 institutions take part and some of the students from the various institutions go through auditions, submit work, meet at a media expo, scoop awards at the awards night where some mainstream media personalities are awarded too and finally a media fellowship is organized.

He was also selected by the state to be part on of the National task force for adoption of the forth industrial revolution in Uganda. These are to support in coming up with country’s strategy in the country’s development.

He concludes by urging all youth out there to use their inspiration to be what they want to be not to be someone else.
