The Ministry of Health has today, 1st June 2020 confirmed 40 new coronavirus cases from the 1,319 samples tested on 31st May 2020. In addition, the worry is all the confirmed cases are Ugandan citizens. 23 of the new confirmed cases are from the 993 samples from the points of entry while 17 are from 326 samples of contacts and alerts.
The total number of coronavirus cases in Uganda now stands at 457. In addition, 31 foreign truck drivers of which 11 are from Tanzania. 19 are from the Republic of Kenya while 1 is from Eritrea tested positive for COVID-19. However, all these were handed back to their respective countries of origin immediately.
About the confirmed coronavirus cases
20 of the confirmed cases are truck drivers who arrived from South Sudan via Elegu Point of Entry. In addition, the 2 of the confirmed COVID-19 cases are truck drivers who arrived from Tanzania via Mutukula point of Entry. 1 of the confirmed COVID-19 cases is a truck driver who arrived via Padea point of entry.
17 of the confirmed coronavirus cases are contacts to the previously confirmed cases.
In addition, these include 2 from Gulu District, 1 from Jinja, 3 from Amudat, 3 from Wakiso, 2 from Amuru. Also, 1 from Yumbe district, 2 from Zombo district, and lastly 3 from Nebbi District.
Currently, there are 303 admitted coronavirus cases in the 15 referral hospitals in the country. However, the good is all of them are in stable conditions… To date, Uganda has registered a total of 72 COVID-19 recoveries and none has succumbed to the deadly virus.
The president of the Republic of Uganda his Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will address the country at 8.00 pm EAT. In addition, about the current COVID-19 status in the country and issue, other guidelines since the current lockdown will end on 4th June 2020.
What do the increasing numbers of coronavirus cases signify to the Cabinet?
Hmm, well we are likely not to see the lifting of the lockdown because there are worrying numbers of the virus in the country… In addition, public transport and schools were meant to open on 4th but let’s await the president’s address for a way forward…
