Wakiso Giants register first win

Wakiso Giants kicked off the year on a high with a 1-0 win over Mbarara City at Kakyeka stadium on Friday.

The Purple Sharks returned home with all three points from a tight clash against the Ankole Lions courtesy of Kipson Atuheire goal.

This was Douglas Bamweyana coached side’s first win in the 2020/2021 season from six games played.

This was Wakiso Giants’ first time to bag maximum points.

Their last time came on February 18th last year when they won 2-1 against Maroons at Kabaka Kyabaggu stadium.

Kipson Atuheire was handed his debut by Coach Douglas Bamweyana and he didn’t disappoint.

The former SC Villa forward scored a centre forward’s goal in the 57th minute.

He scored from a well weighted pass from Ibrahim Kasule.

Wakiso Giants second clean sheet

A 1-0 win meant that Wakiso Giants recorded their second clean sheet of the season their first since day one.

They kicked off the league with a goalless draw with Police FC at MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo.

Samson Kiirya wonderful

Kiirya hadn’t played in any of the Purple Sharks’ last three games but was selected for the game.

The goalkeeper was no doubt keen to show his class and impressed with his contribution with brilliant saves to keep the hosts at bay.

The former SC Villa goalkeeper went on to be voted the fans’ Man of the Match.

With Simon Namwanja missing due to injury, Bamweyana handed Alex Komakech his first league game since March.

And the left back didn’t look out of place against the Ankole Lions contributing immensely both going forward and defensively. 

The win lifts Wakiso Giants to 9th on the table with eight points in six games.

Meanwhile, Mbarara City stay 13th with 3 points.

Wakiso Giants will host SC Villa next on Wednesday February 17th at Kabaka Kyabaggu stadium.
