The Minister of State for the Vice Presidency, Dr Baltazar Kasirivu-Atwooki, has on Wednesday Morning survived a gunfire attack as he approached his home.
Dr Kasirivu who is also the Member of Parliament for Bugangaizi West was allegedly ambushed by gunmen past 1.00 am at Kakora village, Nyalweyo town council in Kakumiro District, a few kilometers away from his home.
The attack found Dr Kasirivu in his vehicle as he returned from a radio talk show which was hosted at Emambya FM in Kakumiro Town.
It is alleged that over eight bullets perforated through his vehicle which he and his driver survived after ordering him to press the accelerator pedal down from the scene.
The minister’s bodyguard assumes the ambush was laid by about two gunmen who were firing from either side as he drove.
Dr Kasirivu has reported the case to the regional police for immediate investigations.
The Kakumiro District Police Commander, Mr Twaha Buyinza has also confirmed the shooting at the Minister’s car adding that police investigations have commenced to assert the lead.
The victim suspects the attack is politically motivated ahead of tomorrow’s general elections.
He was appointed to that position on 6 June 2016, replacing Henry Banyenzaki, who was dropped from the cabinet. He also concurrently serves as the elected Member of Parliament for Bugangaizi County West, in Kibaale District, since 2011
