Uganda Cranes completed their mission in Yaounde with positive results after posting a 3-0 win over Niger in the final match of the Pre-CHAN Mini Tournament.
The tournament also attracted hosts Cameroon and Zambia.
Milton Karisa got his name on the score sheet twice while Saidi Kyeyune netted the other in between the former’s brace.
Karisa was set up by the day’s captain Musitafa Mujuzi who headed back Niger’s goal kick to land in the path of Karisa.
He used his pace and intelligence to beat his marker Karim Mamadou to hand Uganda the lead in the 3rd minute.
Karisa later became provider for Kyeyune’s strike before Ojera Joackim who has impressed as well on the right wing during the camp in the Cameroonian Capital.
He set up Karisa for his second goal on 14 minutes but third of the tournament.
Uganda Cranes coach Johnathan McKinstry’s post-match reaction
“There are several things we have learnt from the Pre CHAN Mini Tournament. First,” McKinstry said before adding.
“It was about testing all players by having a good time on the field and getting the final squad for the CHAN Final Tournament itself.”
“We also have a number of our players who have not been here and have played CECAF only.”
“However there are some in the squad who have not even played at CECAFA.”
“It has given them huge belief heading into the tournament and that they can compete at this level.”
“We played three good teams Cameroon, Zambia and Niger,” he noted.
Uganda will not leave Yaounde for Douala on Friday where they will be based until the opening matches of the Group Stages of the Total CHAN Finals 2020.
Uganda is in Group C alongside Champions Morocco, Rwanda and Niger.
Uganda’s opening fixture is against regional rivals Rwanda on 18th January 2021, followed by a fixture against Togo on 22nd January and four days later will face Morocco.
