The further reopening of schools for other students still hangs in balance following the government dismissal of resumption speculations. Government still insists that schools will resume operation basing on President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s guidance.
“It’s only finalist students at all levels that are allowed to to continue with school. This guidance will remain in place until His Excellency the president communicates otherwise,” Judith Nabakooba, the Minister of ICT and National Guidance said.
This was during her weekly media briefing on Sunday where she also called upon the parents to continue making good use of the existing learning opportunities on radio and TV .
This follows a similar warning that was issued to higher institutions of learning by the National Council for Higher Education(NCHE) against reopening without the President’s approval.
“We await a decision of Government on the way forward regarding reopening for non finalist classes,” Professor Mary Okwakol, the executive director of NCHE said
The communication comes at a time when various higher institutions of learning are resuming normal operations across the country with the country’s oldest university, Makerere University having set 6th February as the date for resumption.
