Ugandan long-distance runner Joshua Cheptegei has broken the 10,000m record in Valencia.
The 24 year Cheptegei has set a new record of 26 minutes and 11.02 seconds breaking the 15 year old record which was being held by Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele.
This comes nearly two months since he set another 5,000m world record in Monoco at 12:35.36.
Upon the setting the new world record, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni congregated the athlete through his social media handles.
“Congratulations to Joshua Cheptegei for setting a new 10,000m world record in Valencia. Uganda is proud of you as you continue to hoist our flag high!” he said.
The First lady and Minister of Education and Sports,Janet Kataha Museveni, also congratulated the long distance runner.
“Joshua Cheptegei, Uganda has been blessed by yet another win from you in Valencia tonight. We are immensely proud of you. Congratulations and God bless you,” she said.
