Gen Mugisha Muntu, the presidential candidate for The Alliance for National Transformation has suspended his Campaigns in protest over the arrest of other presidential candidates, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine of the National Unity Platform and Patrick Amuriat Oboi of the Forum for Democratic Change party.
Robert Kyagulanyi was arrested today in Luuka District a head of his rally and detained at the infamous Nalufenya prison in Jinja while Patrick Amuriat Oboi was arrested in Gulu city.
“We have decided to pause our presidential campaign activities until our colleagues, Hon. Kyagulanyi and Hon. Patrick Amuriat Oboi are released and their freedom to campaign guaranteed,” he said.
“We call upon government to recognise that this isn’t business as usual. The future of the country depends a lot on how you handle this season,” he added.
Mugisha Muntu earlier today condemned the arrest of Robert Kyagulanyi and called for his immediate release.
“The impunity with which security operatives are operating in the continued harassment and now arrest of Hon. Kyagulanyi is leading this country closer towards a breaking point,” he said.
“We join NUP ( National Unity Platform) and all fair-minded Ugandans in calling upon his immediate release,” he added.

Mugisha Muntu is part of the 10 presidential candidates that want unseat President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who has been in power for the last 35 years. Other candidates include Norbert Mao of The Democratic Party, Joseph Kabuleta, Mayabala Willy, Nancy kalembe ( the only female), and 24-year-old John Katumba.
