Makerere University continuing Students and new students commonly referred to as Freshers will next month begin online learning as a new Academic year starts. This move follows president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni‘s advise to the National Council for Higher Education where he urged higher learning institutions to embrace online learning for the next three months as they await solutions before fully resuming operations.
“Gallant Makerereans! I salute you and congratulate you on keeping yourselves safe from COVID-19. Please observe all the SOPs and remain alive, Uganda needs you alive. Following the Government directive, we’re making arrangements to receive finalists as planned on 6th Feb 2021,” Barnabas Nawangwe, Makerere University Vice-Chancellor tweeted on Wednesday.
“The rest of the students will continue studying online. Freshers will register and receive non-residential orientation beginning Monday 1st February. Please stay tuned for further instructions,” another tweet added.
All learning institutions around the country were closed in March following a government directive in order to control the spread of coronavirus. However, the measure was partially lifted to allow candidates and finalists.
