Fallen deputy government spokesperson, Col Shaban Bantariza has been laid to rest in home village, Kagorogoro, Mitooma District where he was given 24 gun salute.
Bantariza scummbed to coronavirus on Tuesday at Mulago National Referral Hospital were he had been admitted since Sunday with hypertension.
In attendance were The Government Spokesperson, Ofwono Opondo, Commissioner for National Guidance at the ministry of ICT and National Guidance, Kambarage Kakonge and Col. Chris Bagamba.
Bantariza’s burial was carried out by the Ministry of health Covid-19 burial teams.
Who is Col Shaban Bantariza?
Col. Shaban Bantariza was born on 17 December 1955 to Mr and Mrs Atanazio Rwebakura of Kagorogoro village, Nyakasiru parish, Bitereko sub-county, Ruhinda county, Mitooma district.
He joined Muhangye Primary School, then St Leo’s College Kyegobe for O’level and later Caltec Academy Makerere for his Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE)
In 1978, he joined National Teachers College – Kyambogo. He has since attained a Bachelor of Arts in Arts from Makerere University and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Management
Military Training Uganda Management Institute.

Bantariza was enlisted into the National Resistance Army (NRA) on 10th July 1985 where he underwent several military trainings that including Senior Command and Staff Course at Senior Command and Staff College, Kimaka, Jinja in 2005.
He served as the UPDF spokesperson in 2002, a position he held till 2005, Director National Leadership Institute, Kyankwanzi (2009 – 2012) and Director Oliver Tambo Leadership School, Kaweweta (2008 – 2009).
In 2013, Bantariza was appointed as Deputy Government Spokesperson based at the Uganda Media Center, where he countiuned to serve in the same capacity after his retirement from the UPDF in 2015 untill his Death.
