Black Panther bags the top prize in SAG Awards 2019

Black Panther has won the top film award in at the 25th Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, putting it in strong contention for an Oscars win this February. Reported The Guardian.


BBC: Superhero film Black Panther has won the top prize at the Screen Actors Guild awards (SAGs).
Asked if Black Panther had changed the film industry, lead actor Chadwick Boseman replied: “My answer to that is… to be young, gifted and black.”
British winners included Emily Blunt for her performance in A Quiet Place.
. She looked shocked as she accepted her award: “I am going to share this completely with my husband, John Krasinski, because the entire experience of doing this with you has completely pierced my heart directly. You are a stunning filmmaker.”
Citing more from The Guardian, In a nomination pool that largely eschewed heavyweight Oscar contenders, Black Panther beat A Star is Born, Bohemian Rhapsody, Crazy Rich Asians and BlacKkKlansman to receive the award for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture. It also took out the award for best stunt ensemble, announced prior to the awards telecast, which was hosted by Megan Mullally in Los Angeles on Sunday.
The SAGs have well and truly blown the Oscars race wide open, with Black Panther now being considered as a serious contender for the best picture Oscar.
Bohemian Rhapsody picked up that prize at the Golden Globes, while Green Book won at the Producers’ Guild of America Awards.

• Best actress in a comedy series – Rachel Brosnahan, The Marvellous Mrs Maisel
• Outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series – This Is Us
• Outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series – The Marvellous Mrs Maisel
• Outstanding action performance by a stunt ensemble in a comedy or drama series – Glow
• Life achievement award – Alan Alda
