The Minister of finance, Matia Kasaija, has been declared unopposed by the Kibaale District Electoral Commission Returning Officer for the MP seat of Buyanja County after his opponent, Paul Kyalimpa, opted out of the race. This follows Kyalimpa’s appointment as Deputy Director General at the Uganda Investment Authority.
However, this series of events has faced criticism from major opposition figures in the country. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is also being critised for making the appointment.
Four time presidential candidate, Kiiza Besigye, discribed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s move to appoint Kyalimpa as a “criminal abuse of office”. He also cited that the office is non existent.
“The Investment Authority Act doesn’t have a post of Deputy Director General, to which Mr Kyalimpa has been appointed. It’s being created for him,” Besigye said.
