Nansana- a UPDF vehicle has been set on fire by angry mob in Nansana- Yesu Amala stage in the outskirts of capital Kampala on Monday morning after a senior security officer allegedly hacked a taxi driver with a hammer to death.
According to eye witnesses, chaos erupted after a taxi driver hit a parked Land Cruiser M/V UAM 617D which allegedly belonged to a UPDF soldier.
The soldier angrily got out of the car, removed a hammer which he used to hit the taxi driver on the head.
Residents in turn set the officer’s car on fire.
“A taxi driver accidentally knocked a packed car of a UPDF officer in Nansana and the UPDF officer reacted by removing a hoe from his car and hit the driver on the head and mobs descended to rescue the taxi driver and also they set the car of the UPDF officer a blaze,” an eyewitness alleged.
The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) has confirmed the incident in Nansana but denied the offender has any connection to the force.
UPDF spokesperson Brig. Richard Karemire has through his official twitter page dismissed allegations on social media that their officer hacked a taxi driver dead saying the involved car belongs to Gerald Kayondo who he said is a civilian.
“No UPDF [Uganda People’s Defense Forces] personnel or vehicle got involved in an accident in Nansana this morning as is circulating on social media,” Brig Karemire maintaining that Land Cruiser M/V UAM 617D driven by civilian Gerard Kayondo is the one that was involved.
